Rory McIlroy won his second major with a scintillating eight-shot victory in the US PGA Championship at Kiawah Island.
The 23-year-old Northern Irishman show a superb six-under 66 in his final round to finish on 13 under and return to number one in the world.
Relative unknown Englishman David Lynn finished in second on five under and now has an outside chance of qualifying for a Ryder Cup spot next month.
McIlroy's main threat throughout the day came from Ian Poulter who birdied six of the first seven holes to close within two shots, before faltering on the back nine.
The Northern Irishman had a run of four missed cuts in five events earlier this year and critics had suggested his private life was contributing to his poor form, but McIlroy was happy to answer those.
"I did want to go out there and prove a few people wrong. A few people in this [media] room were probably pressing panic buttons for no reason," he added.
