While all of us here at Shaftesbury Hotels London had an amazing summer filled with picnics in the park, lidos, seasonal pop-ups, and plenty of ice lollies, we’re by no means dragging our feet as we move into autumn. Don’t get us wrong, we’ll miss the warm weather! But there’s so much to look forward to that we don’t even have time to reminisce about bikinis and BBQs.

With Halloween fast approaching and Christmas cheer starting to spread, we thought we’d take a look at the top events in London this November.

Of course, London is a big city. So, to make it easier for guests staying at one of our London locations – from our hotel near Heathrow airport to our suites near Hyde Park – we’ve created a borough-by-borough guide off the top events, exhibitions, festivals and more coming our way next month.

Events in North London

Alexandra Palace Fireworks Festival

When: Friday, November 1 2019 – Saturday, November 2 2019
Where: Alexandra Palace Way, London N22 7AY

We couldn’t possibly talk about London events in November without mentioning Bonfire Night celebrations, and it makes sense to kick-off the list with the biggest (and most popular) of them all. So popular, in fact, they’ve extended the display and spread it across two nights. Expect DJs, a pagan fire-lighting ritual, and a German beer festival on site.

Oh, and exploding fireworks of course.

Arsenal Match at Home

While locals would never attend the game of a team they didn’t support, it’s a little bit different for tourists. After all, football is an institution here in England, and November is as exciting of a month as any to catch the Gunners going head-to-head with other teams for the Europa League Cup.

Top tip: Come dressed in team colours – red, blue and gold.

When: Various
Where: Emirates Stadium, Hornsey Rd, London N7 7AJ

Events in South London

Blackheath Fireworks

Another for those interested in celebrating Bonfire Night, the Blackheath Fireworks display promises free fun for the whole family. The event runs all day, with fair rides available during the day, food and drink stalls opening at 5PM and the main event starting at 8PM.

When: Saturday, November 2 2019
Where: Blackheath Shooters Hill Rd, LondonSE3 0TY

Winterville

You’ll see the holidays being celebrated in various ways throughout the city throughout November and December, but the most fun way to take part in the festivities is to attend a Christmas Market.

Step 1 is, of course, to grab a piping hot cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate.

From there, you can pop on a pair of skates and hit the ice rink, cosy up for a film put on by Backyard Cinema, catch a puppet or circus show, or grab a bite to eat. If you’re travelling with kids, there’s plenty to keep them entertained, too.

Check out the Winterville website for more details about specific attractions and shows and, if you have a specific one in mind that you’d like to attend, make sure you book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

When: Friday, November 15-Monday, December 23
Where: Clapham Common

Liam Gallagher at the O2

While there are tons of artists coming to the O2 this November (Lizzo, Bjork, Little Mix and The Lumineers to name a few…) we have to honour our hometown hero, Liam Gallagher. Okay, not quite hometown… but Manchester is close enough.

When: Thursday, November 28
Where: Peninsula Square, Greenwich Peninsula, London SE10 0DX

Events in East London

Hyper Japan Christmas Market

London is a melting pot of different cultures. That means that not all holiday celebrations will be traditionally British. For a taste of the East, head to the Hyper Japan Christmas Market where you’ll find arts and crafts, super cool gifts, Japanese snacks, and workshops to take part in.

If the culture isn’t enough to draw you in, maybe the prize draw will be? Look out for giveaways of top electronics like a PS4 and Nintendo DS. That’s your Christmas shopping sorted…

When: Friday, November 1
Where: Tobacco Dock, Tobacco Quay, Wapping Ln, London E1W 2SF

London Eco-Film Festival

In the midst of a season that’s all about commercialism, we thought we’d add something with a bit more purpose to our list. Eco-warriors, we’re talking to you!

In addition to film screenings, there will be a series of workshops, debates, and speeches from special guests. And, with over 2,750 films submitted, there’s sure to be plenty to talk about.

When: Saturday, November 2-Saturday, November 3
Where: Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Rd, Shoreditch, London E1 6LA

Diwali on the Square

This is a positively buzzing annual celebration taking place in Trafalgar Square that includes a line-up of traditional and contemporary performances from the East.
